I Got Me Some 3D Glasses, Y'all!

Just got home from the movies. My brother and I watched Avatar in 3D. The movie was alright, although I took me a bit of time to get used to the whole 3D effect thing.
Oh, the people at the theatre gave us these free 3D glasses for the movie. We were supposed to return them after but these were just too dorky looking to give back. Being the geek that I am, I just had to keep these as a souvenir.

I'm actually a bit disappointed they didn't give us those old school 3d glasses with the red and blue lenses. I guess the company who made these ones wanted to be all fashionable and whatnot by going with the darker rimmed ones. I still like the older design with the red and blue lenses.

Mom's Cooking Rocks!

Still having a great time here at my parents' place. All I've been doing so far is eat, eat, and eat some more. My mom and I love to cook. I'm actually the household's official taste tester. Haha.

We all went to the grocery this afternoon and I actually asked my mom to make some of my favourite dishes I haven't eaten in like the longest time - liver and chicken gizzards (yes, I like that), spanish rice paella, and "lugaw" (Filipino congee).

Mmmm....chicken gizzards and liver. Want some? It's actually quite good. You really should try it at least once.

I'm still trying to convince my mom to appear on my BlogTV broadcast since a lot of you are actually looking forward to seeing her again. Don't worry guys, I'll get her to come on cam eventually.

I got featured on BlogTV...again.

Hey guys, I'm at my parents' house for the holidays for the next 17 days and I'll be blogging all sorts of stuff while I'm here. Let's start with something that happened last night over at my BlogTV channel. As if the title didn't already give it away.

I wanted to do a quick blogtv show last night just to say "hey!" to everyone before I left for my very early train ride the following morning. We did our usual thing: play music, dancing, random discussions, and other things. About an hour into the broadcast the current viewers I had and myself all noticed that the "visitor count" began to increase - ten became fifteen, fifteen became 30, and so forth. My channel was now being brodcast on BlogTV's homepage. My channel was now being "featured."

For those of you who may not know, being "featured" means your live channel broadcast will be the very first thing visitors see when they go to BlogTV's site. This gives you a brief chance to show what you got to those who otherwise not know who the heck you are. This was your very brief 15 minutes of fame in front of the BlogTV community.

I've been featured before. I think last night was the tenth time, I'm not sure. I don't really know the requirements (someone let me know) in order to become featured but I guess I'm doing something right. I was just there being myself, being nice to everybody, and playing all sorts of music genres - from Sinatra to Snoop Dog and everything in between.
You know, the usual.
What's also really interesting was some time before the channel got featured I recorded a 30-minute video of the broadcast. It's pretty much a little bit of everything I do when I go live.

Anyway, if you still haven't been to my channel yet, or if you missed the show last night, or if you just want to watch me dance to "Greased Lighting" in a suit, see me almost fall off my chair dancing to "I'm On A Boat", perform Hakuna Mutata, hear me affectionately talk to my mom, and give you the most random song at the end, then CLICK THIS LINK: http://bit.ly/4OIxx2

That's it for now. I'll be blogging more things soon while I'm here. See ya! ^_^ v

Girls Don't Need Saving

As always: Drawn and Written by me...
"I've flown endless nights,
calling out your name..."

"Vanquished many foes,
endured countless pains..."

"I came to your rescue,
I thought that's how it ought to be..."

you're much stronger than me!"

My Fashion Style

The article below was featured in TheCollegeEssential.com. It's under their MyStyle Section.

I have what some might consider a preppy/sophisticated look. As a petite guy (5'6"), I stay away from bright, loud colors and stick to the dark neutrals - brown, black, and navy blue. I also stay away from clothes with too much print or loud graphics on them.

For me, style is all about how you carry yourself, your clothes, and how everything goes together. One of the best style tips I've learned that really helped me is to find a FOCAL POINT in your outfit, whether it's your belt, scarf, or shoes.

Well-chosen accessories are vital to completing the look and are as important as my outfit for the day. A well-maintained leather bag gives a classy touch. Scarfs are also great and should be a staple in anybody's wardrobe. A great hat can also add flavour and personality to your look. I also love cardigans for its versatility. I can dress them down with a pair of jeans or wear them on a more formal occassion.

I see clothes as an investment. There is nothing wrong with spending a bit more on higher quality pieces that will last for a long time. Also, I'm open to having my suits tailored to my perfect size, whenever possible. There is nothing worse than wearing a suit that's a bit too small or a bit too large. It just looks bad.

Clothes are an extension of who we are. I'm happy to say I found my look that best suits my personality.

This is me. This is my style.

BlogTV - Johnny makes you feel better!

BlogTV broadcasts are always fun, especially when I'm REALLY in a good mood. Dex - one of my viewers last night - was feeling a bit under the weather so I thought a little song and dance would help her get better. Whether it helped or not we'll see.

My song of choice:

Barry White's "Just the Way You Are"

Mega Cowlick!

I got home from class and realized I had the biggest cowlick ever. Geez...I had this thing sticking out the back of my head the entire day. Who knows how it was there. What's the purpose of cowlicks, anyway? I mean, I think cowlicks are one of those things we don't really need...like lint or nipple hair.

BLOGTV - Skype Orgy

This video is definitely one of my favourite things I ever did on my BlogTV channel - sitting there, trying not to laugh, while my friends make very sexy (and hilarious) noises. The point is to make me laugh. Gosh we had so much fun that night. ^_^

I can watch and listen to this over and over.

Wait, what if he has a PSP, is that like cheating? ^_^

Wedding Proposal at Disneyland

I was having a lazy afternoon just going through random YouTube videos when I stumbled on this incredibly awesome wedding proposal done at Disneyland.

A lot of people who commented on this video questioned whether this is real or not. What do you think? I think it is.

Nigella Lawson Is So Yummy

I always go crazy whenever I watch British TV chef Nigella Lawson's cooking shows. Seriously, I could watch that woman all day. I've always wondered what I love about her - maybe it's her very very sexy accent whenever she makes something yummy.

(Yeah, that's right, it's the accent. What else could it be?)

Just look at those yummy Choco Pots. = )

So you want to be famous?

I just read an article at CNN. com about the psychology behind our thirst for fame. I suggest you read it first before continuing. Go ahead. Click it. I'll wait. Come back when you're done.

Done? Okay, let's move on.

I agree with some of the statements made by the experts in the article - that we seek to be a part of a group; in this case, the group of "famous people". We want the attention and the recognition from people, whether we know them or not. It is this kind of mentality that affects a lot of us who are frequent users of the internet. I admit I'm one of those people.

Websites like YouTube, Facebook, and MySpace encourage us to stand out and not be ordinary. It gives us plenty of ways to share what we are doing, eating, reading, cleaning, cooking, and all other kinds of things that happen in our lives. It is so easy now to become instantly famous many of us are willing to do anything to get a little bit of fame.

Even the sudden increase of reality shows is a clear example of society's addiction with instant fame. Every channel I flip to I see at least one reality show. Ordinary people want to be famous. They all want the attention. To be quite honest, it seems a little sad, really.

For some of us, the idea of fame has changed the way we behave. The "Internet Generation" has become nothing more than a mad mob fighting over our attention. People want the "15 minutes" in order to feel good about themselves, in order to be accepted. It is also this constant quest for instant fame that stops us from becoming happy about ourselves. We choose to stand out, to never be ordinary.

Because being ordinary means you're not anything special.

Do you want to be famous? Why? Why not?

Johnny's 10 - issue 1

In "Johnny's 10" , I'll be talking about (in brief) ten things that are affecting my life right now. I'll be posting more "Johnny's 10" in the future. For now, these are the ten things...

  1. Intersession week --- Pretty much another name for "one week off" for college students. i have a couple of papers to do for next week but I don't think it should a problem. I'll do them over the weekend.
  2. OMGPOP.com --- I just got introduced to this free online gaming website. The Flash games there are pretty much rip-offs of well-known titles like Scrabble, Busta Move, Mario Kart, and others. It's highly addicting. My username is "johnnythemind" if you wanna challenge me. Click here to go to the site.
  3. UFC/MMA --- I never really thought I would ever get into it, but I am. I'm hooked on "The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights". Nothing like good 'ole fashion face bustings.
  4. Blogging --- Having more free time really motivated me to start doing blogs again. It's a good de-stesser. I'm sure it is for a lot of people too.
  5. Rain in the Philippines --- We should never forget about what happened. Our old house where my grandparents live was flooded. They're all ok, but the house is pretty much a disaster area. I grew up in that house. I feel sad just thinking about. It's hard when you're far away.
  6. Winter --- Dreading it. never a fan of the cold weather. A few more weeks and i'll be starting my hibernation again. I hate being cold, I hate snow, and I hate winter. can I just sleep until springtime?
  7. Dancing with the Stars --- My guilty pleasure right now. I'm still rooting for Mark from Iron Chef. Go Chairman! Allez Cuisine!!!
  8. Food Network --- Cooking channel here in Canada. I'm getting lots of great ideas. I particularly like the shows "Chef at Home", "Nigella feasts", and "Iron Chef: America". I wish they would show the original Iron Chef from Japan again.
  9. "Showtime: With Johnny Bautista" --- My small local talk show has hit a major bump. I was told by the studio that, in order for me to do more episodes, I need to find my own sponsors, camera crew, director, staff, editor, and own money to fund the show. They don't have the budget to support it anymore. I'm very disappointed about how everything has turned out. It's virtually impossible for me to come up with all these. I don't know what to do.
  10. Tea --- I'm a tea lover now. Thanks Anne for the teabags you sent. I'm slowly working on it. I'll finish them all soon.

Mon-Mon is a sexy beast!

Meanwhile, in Johnny's blog...

JOHNNY: Look Mon-Mon, we have readers! Someone is actually at the blog reading this! This is so exciting

MON-MON: Wow, this is a shocker. It's been quiet here the last few days. It's nice to finally have some people around here. How you doin' over there? What brings you here? Why don't you just sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonderful, exciting world of Asian Awesome!!!

JOHNNY: Uh, don't you think you're overdoing it just a little? I mean, you don't want to scare away my potential regular readers.

MON-MON: Bah! Listen bud, I'm sure this nice person right here reading the blog doesn't mind. I mean, we gotta have an edge over the other blogs now, right? We gotta be different. We have to stand out. We have to offer them something the other blogs don't have - namely ME.

MON-MON: Think about it: a 26-year old blogger having a charming, dashing, (and very single) stuffed animal as a sidekick is pretty unique. I bet the other blogs don't have anything close to this.
JOHNNY: Well, you do have a point. You are pretty unique.
MON-MON: Oh, I know.

JOHNNY: So, if you're still reading this I would like to welcome you to Asian Awesome. You'll find all sorts of topics while you're here: links, videos, photos, and even some stuff about me. I just started Asian Awesome earlier this month so the list of entries isn't large yet, but I'll make it a point to update the blog as often as I can so that you'll always have something new to read.
MON-MON: Plus I'll pose like this and be all adorable. That's more than enough reason for you to come back.

JOHNNY: I hope to see you again here real soon. Leave a comment on any of the entries and BE SURE TO CLICK THE FOLLOW LINK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BLOG so that you'll know when I post a new entry. See you on the next post!
MON-MON: Don't worry - I'll hold this pose until you come back.^_^
Note: "Mon-Mon" was a gift from an ex-girlfriend. It's so cute and adorable I just didn't have the heart to throw it out. I now use Mon-Mon as part of my blogging.

Robots are among us, I tell ya~!

I just realized that my air purifier on top of my mini fridge looks like a robot. The purifier was acting up and the way I fixed it was to stand it up on its back side.

Now I sleep on my side every night and, when I woke up this morning , this was what I saw. Cool yet freaky.

Staying true to my culture, I just added a new category to the blog - Proudly Pinoy. Entries that have a unique Filipino theme to it will fall under here. "Pinoy" is an informal name for Filipinos.

Do you REALLY want fries with that?

Holy freakin' cholesterol, Batman!

To help promote Microsoft's latest OS in Japan, the company and Burger King have worked together and came up with this ridiculously dangerous-looking burger -- the Windows 7 Whopper. Seven patties. Wow.

The burger is sold for 777 Yen (get it?). About 8 USD. Only the first 30 customers can get to enjoy this big, juicy, artery-destroying monstrosity.

Oh, for all you nutrition fanatics out there who are wondering: it has over 2000 calories.

Shibaten

I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet SHIBATEN - an independent musician from Osaka, Japan. He has travelled to over 20 countries, performing his original songs on the street, at cafes, and at music playing venues with his signature instrument the didgeridoo - a native wind instrument from Australia. He also plays the guitar.

Shibaten was my very first guest on my local cable talk show here in Toronto. We taped an episode back in May and he shared with us his experiences travelling and performing all over the world. Below is his performance for the show:

Dr. Phil and Dr. Seuss - WHAT IS LOVE?

JOHNNY- Full-time Blogger. Part-time Philosopher?
Below is a fictional conversation I wrote for my Philosophy class. Using actual people or made-up characters engaged in a moral or philosophical conversation (known as "Socratic Dialogue"), we were asked to come up with our own definition and answer the question "What is LOVE?"
There are no right or wrong answers.
Here is what I came up with. The conversation may be fictional, exaggerated, and ridiculous, but I think the underlying message still holds true. I hope you enjoy it.
(Just in case you were wondering, I got an A+ for this.)

THE CHARACTERS:

Dr. Seuss: Author of literary classics such as Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat; tends to rhyme his sentences…a lot; adores pastries. (link to wiki bio)

Dr. Phil McGraw: American television personality, psychologist, and best-selling author; sarcastic, yet insightful; has a big bald head.

Dr. Phil has invited Dr. Seuss over for lunch at a local coffee shop. The scene opens with Dr. Seuss having a bit of a “pastry” issue.

Dr. Seuss: Which one should I have, which one indeed, the
blueberry scone or the lemon poppy seed?

Dr. Phil: Will you stop riding the cow around the barn like a little boy who lost his mommy. You can have both for all I care!

Dr. Seuss: Oh no my bald friend, I cannot do that. My tummy
will ache, and I will get fat.

Dr. Phil: You know, we can talk about your insecurities and self-image issues later. Sit down. Okay, the reason I invited you over was because I need to ask you something.
Dr. Seuss: Oh no, oh my, what ever could it be? You’re
coming out of the closet and want to marry me?

Dr. Phil: No, you oaf! I wanted to know what your views are about love. What is it to you? How do explain what love is?

Dr. Seuss: Love, my friend, I have to admit, means so many
things, I just can’t omit. It’s hard, it’s easy, it cannot be explained. Love
can be lost, but also regained.

Dr. Phil: That doesn’t make any sense at all.

Dr. Seuss: Oh patience my child, allow me to explain. It’s
really quite simple; you don’t need a big brain. Love is a handshake, love is a
kiss, love is an embrace no one should ever miss. It is the touch of someone
whom you hold dear. It surrounds us all; it is there, it is here.

Dr. Phil: It is there? It is here? You mean Love is everywhere?

Dr. Seuss: Joy to the heavens, you finally understand! Your
mind has been freed from love quicksand!

Dr. Phil: If love is everywhere, that means it’s right here in my grande non-fat chai latte. It’s also in those scone morsels swirling about in your mouth right now.
Dr. Seuss: Indeed you are right, you are right indeed. Let
me take another bite, into my mouth I feed!

Dr. Phil: How can that be? Love is the special bond between two individuals. It’s an emotion felt when two people are attracted to one another not only in the physical sense, but also internally. Love exists between families, friends, and even among strangers. Long story short - love exists in people, not objects like coffee or articially-flavoured pastries.

Dr. Seuss: What you say is true, so wonderful to hear. You
said it so well, I commend you, I cheer. But love is also found in all things
big and small - from the tiniest snowflake to the highest waterfall. These
things make us wonder, in amazement, and in awe; sometimes we don’t believe some
of the things we just saw. This is what love is, allow me to explain: love is a
memory, its essence we retain.

Dr. Phil: Um, I’m not quite sure I follow. You’re not making any sense, you know.

Dr. Seuss: Look here my friend, this scone you see. It
tastes so good, yet still healthy. As I slowly chew, a smile now appears. My
tummy is now full; can you not hear its cheers? In that brief moment, my needs
have been met, I no longer starve, I no longer fret. The love from the scone has
been given to me. Look at my face, and see that I’m happy.

Dr. Phil: This is absolutely ridiculous! I am still not convinced. Love is a feeling given by a person to another person. Love is a gift that makes us feel wonderful, it makes us feel good about ourselves, and it also makes us want to just get up and share it with the world! It’s what brings us all together.

Dr. Suess: Love can be different, to you and to me; but the
truth has been revealed, you were agreeing with me. You say love is a gift, it
makes us feel great. It makes us feel special, when it comes from our mate. The
same can be said, I say to you now, whenever we see a kitten as it softly says
“meow”. We feel a sense of wonder, a sense of joy in our heart. The memory of
the meow will never ever depart. Love is a wonder, it comes in many forms; it
embraces us all, our cold lives it slowly warms.

Dr. Phil: So what is love then?

Dr. Seuss: We need to look deeper, as we describe what love
means. Love is everyone and everything, and anything in between. You are love, I
am love, that is love, and this is love.

Dr. Phil: So we are all love? That’s what you’re telling me?

Dr. Seuss: Oh yes indeed, that’s exactly what I said. I‘m
sure you’ll remember; you do have a big head. I told you what love is, but let
me leave you with one more. I should have said this, much earlier before. Love
is one of those things one can never clearly explain; you can’t limit it to a
definition, it doesn’t even need a name. All you need to know is that love is
just there. It is in all of us. It is simply everywhere.

Dr. Phil: Geez, you should have just said that from the start!
